[Week01]Prototype stage


[Short description]

Our game is a player vs player-based game located in house with a static camera at a 45°-60° angle. It's about 2 guys, a teenager and an infant that are left alone at home when their mom goes to the grocery store. The teenager gets a list of tasks he needs to complete before the mom gets back home. The infant must try to prevent the teenager from finishing his tasks.  

[Question we asked our self]

  • Does the camera work?

Yes, we believe that a camera at 45° is perfect for our game. Our game is supposed to be a couch game and we believe that this camera will give enough depth.

  • Do the controls work?

We tried out different control schemes, but we haven’t yet figured out witch one is best suited.

  • Which engine did we choose?

We haven’t yet concluded whether it’s better in our case to use unreal or to use unity. I believe that both engines would work great for our game, the only difference in our case is that we have never used c++ in unreal before. So, after trying out some more things in unreal we might opt for it.

  • Are our mechanics fun?

I think so yes, a lot of it will need balancing, otherwise the infant might become to overpowered. We are still testing out new mechanics.  



[Problems we already faced]

As I said above, we (programmers) have never programmed in unreal, but were slowly getting used to it.

Communication, we set up a discord to share idea.

 

[Plans for following weeks]

We will be further testing the different engines and try to come to a conclusion before entering the production sprint.


[Moddels]

This week the purpose of the models where blockout, so we didnt go to indepth in it.

The only mesh that we've worked out in detail is the coffee grinder, we needed a render for in the ArtBible.

The Style of the moddels will be highly stylized, and the important pieces of the object (dails etc...) will be scaled up to grab the attention.

The plan is that the meshes will not be unwrapped and get a flat color applied instead.


[Textures]

Like we mentioned above the only texture that will be applied is a flat color, and with the prebaked AO in unreal we will try to

get the textures like we want.

Highlights and shadows will be cutted into the mesh so we can assign a darker/lighter material to it.


[Art Bible]

The Artbible documents where a struggle for me sinds i've never made one, and im not that great at 2d Art and concept art.

Thats why i had to moddel some props to show renders instead of 2d mockups 

but hey its getting there...
